He grew up in Shandon Park,\u00a0Omagh,\u00a0County Tyrone,\u00a0Northern Ireland,<br \/>\n(where his father lived while performing with showbands), and later\u00a0Blessington, Co. Wicklow. He<br \/>\nstarred as Deco Cuffe in the 1991\u00a0cult film\u00a0The Commitments\u00a0based on the book by\u00a0Roddy Doyle,<br \/>\ndespite being only 18 at the time.
